Three people were taken to the hospital after the car they were in was hit by a train.
Crews were called to Route 32, right on the Massachusetts-Connecticut state line, around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Monson Police said that a preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle, occupied by three people, was traveling north on Route 32.
"Witnesses report that the railroad crossing lights were activated as the vehicle approached but that it did not appear to stop until it was partially across the rails," police noted in a Facebook post.
A New England Central Railroad train, heading south, then hit the vehicle.
All three people were taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of what police said appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
That portion of Route 32 was closed for a time, but has since reopened.
